Brave new old Worlds : remember Goya

Gabriëlla Cleuren Art

February 23 · Issue #96 · View online

What I make, write, read, hear, see and visit as an expressive, spontaneous, systematic artist.

These works are collected images taken from a very recent actuality, that of the 21st century.
They are highly current, but also very old. In terms of content, they can be placed with Goya 200 years ago. The comparison arises and is terrifying. What has man learned from the past? To what extent has it evolved? Is he capable of becoming “human” at all, as Nietzsche calls it? Or does it always revert to the animal when the circumstances are available. These images are testimonials to that.
We can ask ourselves whether man will perhaps only be able to realize his humanity through scientific technical means!
The technique of these works is based on computer printing. The pixels are used in a free form, and are both intended to provide information about the time and to express the harm of man.
